Meet the clinicians
Corrie van aUGER, Msw, lisw-s
Corrie holds a master’s in social work (MSW) from the Ohio State University and is a licensed independent social worker with supervisory designation (LISW-S) in the state of Ohio. She is also a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the state of Maryland and Commonwealth of Virginia.
She has extensive experience working with Latine immigrant communities in Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. She also provides virtual psychosocial assessments for clients in Maryland and Virginia. In 2015, a mentor trained Corrie to conduct and write evaluations for immigration purposes; what started as a part-time opportunity evolved into a full-time career.
Corrie has more than nine years of medical social work experience, specializing in psychosocial assessments and case management services. She has provided outreach services for Latina women’s groups, case management for the under- and uninsured, and bilingual outpatient therapy.
Corrie most recently worked as a social worker in the Emergency Department of OhioHealth in Columbus, Ohio for five years. She conducted assessments for psychiatric placement and outpatient mental health/substance abuse referrals, and provided crisis intervention.
Her work in the ED provided first-hand experience with the opioid epidemic, the severe persistent mentally ill (SPMI) population, domestic violence, human trafficking, psychiatric crisis, and traumatic loss. Emotional support for staff also developed into a primary role for her as a frontline worker in the ED during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Corrie has lived and traveled throughout Central and South America since 2004. She is fluent in Spanish, having received formal training as well as colloquial anecdotes from numerous home stays. Corrie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Communication from the University of Maryland, where she studied abroad in Mexico and Spain.
She completed two years of US Peace Corps service in the Amazon region of Ecuador. As a community health volunteer, Corrie worked throughout the Zamora-Chinchipe province, providing environmental health and sexual education to schools and communities from 2008-2010. Corrie’s Peace Corps experience inspired her social work career, furthering her professional focus on immigrant communities in the US.
While studying for her MSW in 2012, she assessed at-risk youth populations in and around Leon, Nicaragua.
Currently, Corrie works full-time as a mental health consultant for immigration cases and provides brief outpatient counseling services, in both English and Spanish. She is a member of the National Organization of Forensic Social Work and has completed their advanced certificate program in Forensic Social Work. She has completed trainings on immigration evaluations and participates in a working group of mental health evalutaors around the country.
Her hobbies include traveling, fishing with her husband, and diagnosing her favorite TV and movie characters.
